About Football Tactics Board

Football Tactics Board is a free, browser-based football tactics board. It exists for one reason: a coach with thirty seconds before a session should be able to open a pitch, move eleven players, draw two arrows and a zone, and walk away with a shareable diagram — without an account, a download or a subscription.

What the tool does

The core of the site is a single interactive board engine shared by every tool page. You can arrange two teams on a true-to-scale pitch, apply one of seven formation presets (4-3-3, 4-4-2, 4-2-3-1, 3-5-2, 3-4-3, 5-3-2 and 4-1-4-1), drag any player or the ball, and draw runs with arrows, passing lanes with lines, tactical spaces with zones and short text labels. Everything you draw remains an editable object, and the finished diagram exports as a high-resolution PNG or a scalable SVG.

Your board saves itself automatically in your own browser, so your last session reloads on your next visit. Nothing you draw is uploaded anywhere: the tool runs entirely client-side.

Why several pages instead of one

Coaches search for different jobs — a full tactics board, a simple lineup board, a diagram editor, a quick sketching whiteboard, or a tactics guide to learn from. Instead of forcing every visitor through one interface, Football Tactics Board exposes the same engine through focused pages, each tuned to one job: the football tactics board for complete tactical diagrams, the football board for lineups and training setups, the soccer editor for detailed diagram editing, the soccer board and the online tactical board for everyday planning, the soccer whiteboard for freehand speed, and the football tactics guide with interactive examples of formations, pressing shapes and set pieces.

Every page is available in English, French, German, Spanish, Japanese and Korean, with genuinely localized content — not machine-flavoured translations.

Who it is for

Football and soccer coaches plan sessions and team talks with it. Academy and youth coaches use the clear visuals to teach positioning principles. PE teachers set up games and drills in seconds. Players, analysts and content creators illustrate match analyses and scouting reports with consistent, clean diagrams.

How it is built

Football Tactics Board is built with Next.js, React and TypeScript, renders the pitch and every tactical element as scalable SVG, and works on desktops, tablets and phones with full touch support. The project deliberately avoids heavy dependencies: the drawing tools, the export pipeline and the local save are all implemented in-house, so the page loads fast and behaves the same everywhere.

Accessibility and responsible use

Controls are keyboard reachable, buttons carry descriptive labels, focus states are visible, and team colours are never the only way to distinguish teams — players always carry shirt numbers. Diagrams created with the tool are illustrative coaching aids; the responsibility for training content, its appropriateness for a given age group, and its use within your club's safeguarding framework always stays with the coach.
